Brad Schmit
Midwest Elite Basketball Owner
Brad Schmit is a graduate and current head assistant coach at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. He is in his fourth year as coach with the Mustangs. Schmit's duties include player development, practice management, recruiting, game management, scouting and strength and conditioning. Last season, he helped lead the Mustangs to a GPAC Conference Championship and a National Tournament appearance. In the 07-08 season Schmit helped guide the Mustangs to a 23-0 start and a number one ranking in the nation.

Schmit played four years for the Morningside Mustangs and finished as the all-time leading scorer in school history. In his senior season Brad lead the Mustangs to the Great Plains Athletics Conference title and the Elite Eight of the NAIA National Tournament. A four-year starter at the collegiate level, Brad received All-American accolades following his junior and senior seasons and was named to the National Tournament team. Schmit was an all-state player for Jesup High School in Iowa.

Schmit Co-Founded Midwest Elite Basketball in 2006 and currently is a Curriculum Designer, Regional Director, and Camp Instructor. Outside of being a top of the line camp instructor, his primary focus with MEB is to hire and expand our staff of energetic, quality coaches who possess college credentials.

Craig Doty

Craig Doty Co-Founded Midwest Elite Basketball in 2006; over the past four years he has worked with over 1,000 athletes. His journey of a playing career has helped him attain a wealth of basketball knowledge from many college coaches and programs. Doty played two years at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. Last season he was a member of the GPAC Conference Champion Mustangs and helped lead Morningside to the Sweet Sixteen of the NAIA National Tournament. Doty played one season at Minnesota West Community College in Worthington, MN and was a starter and key contributor for the Bluejay team that qualified for the State Junior College Tournament in Minneapolis for the first time in almost a decade. Prior to joining the Bluejays he played one season at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota. Doty graduated from Alcester-Hudson High School (SD) and was an All-state player.

Doty currently is an assistant coach at Morningside College working solely as a player developer. Five days a week he puts members of the men's basketball program through individual basketball workouts and weight room workouts. On top of his Morningside position, Doty just recently signed a one-year contract to be the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Akron-Westfield High School in Iowa.

Doty is in charge of all aspects of Midwest Elite Basketball and specializes in organizational management, player development and curriculum design. Alongside Brad Schmit, they have effectively built one of the most successful basketball camp operations in the Midwest.




Todd Lorenson
Todd Lorensen
Assistant Coach at University of Nebraska- Omaha (Grand View University)

Todd Lorensen is in his second season as an Assistant Coach at the University of Nebraska at Omaha after spending one season as an Assistant Coach at his alma mater Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa. Lorensen specializes in player development and recruiting and is entering his third year of working with Midwest Elite Basketball.

As a player at Grand View, Lorensen was a three time all-conference selection while accumulating just under 1,200 points in three seasons as a Viking. As a high school player, he played for his father Fred Lorensen at Prairie City-Monroe (PCM) High School in Iowa and led PCM to three straight state tournament appearances on his way to All-State honors.

In 2010, Lorensen will serve as a Curriculum Designer and Camp Instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball.


Buck Scheel

Head Coach at Southwestern Community College (Waldorf College)

Buck is currently in his third year as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. Coach Scheel specializes in player development and game management and is in charge of all aspects of the program at SWCC.

Scheel played two years at Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, Nebraska and was a captain and team MVP. After LSC, Scheel finished his playing career at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa and then served the program as an assistant coach for one season. Scheel prepped at Columbus High School (Nebraska) where he led his team to a state runner-up finish in 2001.

Scheel is a Curriculum Designer and Camp Instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball and is in his second season with the organization.


Elijah Starzl

Assistant Coach at University of Minnesota- Morris (Southwest Minnesota State)

Elijah Starzl is beginning his second year as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at the University of Minnesota Morris where his duties include player development, scouting, recruiting, and film breakdown.

Prior to joining the staff at UMM, Starzl was a graduate assistant coach at Southwest Minnesota State for two seasons. Starzl played four years for the SMSU and was a three time all NSIC player, scholar athlete and two year team captain. He currently ranks in the top ten in scoring, rebounding, and FG percentage in the school's history. Starzl was a standout high school player at Columbus High School in Nebraska.

Starzl serves in many capacities for Midwest Elite Basketball including: Curriculum Designer, Regional Director, and Camp Instructor.


Joe Reagan
Joe Reagan
Assistant Coach at McCook Community College (William Penn University)

Joe Reagan is currently in his third season as the top Assistant Coach for the Men's Basketball Program at McCook Community College in McCook, NE. This past season, Reagan helped lead McCook to a successful season which included the Conference Championship game. In the past two seasons, Joe has coached five All-Conference players, 2 All Region IX Tournament team members and helped 8 players move onto 4 year schools.

Joe started his coaching career as at William Penn University where he was the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach; he helped guide the Statesmen to back to back Conference Titles and advancement to the NAIA National Tournament in Branson, Missouri. Joe also served as the Head Junior Varsity Coach at William Penn.

Joe enters his third season as a Camp Instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball.


Nick Broz

Assistant Coach at Hastings College (McCook Community College)

Nick Broz enters his third season as an assistant coach for the Hastings College Men's Basketball Program and sixth year as a college coach. He served as an assistant coach for the basketball programs at McCook Community College between 2004 and 2007.

Broz graduated and played for both the Broncos of Hastings College and McCook Community College. He was an Academic All-American at both the NAIA and NJCAA levels. Broz is a graduate of Hayes Center High School in Nebraska. He has his Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Physical Education.

Broz started instructing with the Midwest Elite Basketball staff in the summer of 2009. He has worked over 80 different summer basketball camps over his six years of college coaching.


Kyle Fisher

Assistant Coach at Southwestern Community College (Washburn University)

Kyle Fisher is currently in his second year as the top Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. Fisher aids Head Coach Mike Holmes in all phases of the Southwestern program. Prior to coming to Creston, Fisher served as a graduate assistant for his Alma Mater Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.

Fisher was a four-year member of Washburn's basketball team where he played for Hall of Fame Coach Bob Chipman, who is ninth all-time among NCAA II coaches for career wins with more than 650. During his time as a player and coach at Washburn, Fisher was a member of teams that won two MIAA Conference Championships and twice advanced to the National Tournament. Fisher earned a bachelor of business administration from Washburn. A native of Liberty, MO (KC), he graduated from Liberty High in 2003.

Fisher enters his second year on the staff of Midwest Elite Basketball staff in 2010. He is the MEB Regional Director for the Kansas City area and a Camp Instructor. As a young coach, and already in his third year of college coaching, he is quickly becoming an up and coming name in the college basketball world.


Eric Nelson

Assistant Coach at Morningside College

Eric Nelson is in his third year as an assistant coach at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. He is a 2008 Morningside graduate with a degree in elementary education. Nelson specializes in player development; in fact, every freshman who steps foot on the Morningside campus as a Mustang Basketball player works with Nelson in an individualized setting.

Nelson, a native of Laurel, Nebraska, played for the Mustangs' for three seasons. He earned a varsity letter in the 2006-07 season. Nelson is a 2004 graduate of Laurel-Concord High School where he was an All-State player.

Nelson is entering his fourth season as a Camp Instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball and has worked with over 300 athletes in the Midwest Elite Basketball camp system.


Brandon Rohr

Assistant Coach at University of Concordia- Texas at Austin (Nebraska Wesleyan University)

Brandon Rohr is in his first season as an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Concordia University- Texas at Austin. He assists Concordia-Texas in all facets of the program and specializes in individual player development and recruiting. Prior to his arrival in Austin, Rohr was an Assistant Women's Coach for one season at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE.

Brandon received his Bachelor's Degree at Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2008 where he was a four year letter winner on the baseball team and four-time conference qualifier for the track & field program. He is set to receive his Masters Degree in Sport Management in December.

Rohr serves as a Camp Instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball and is in his second year in 2010.


Ryan Worley

Assistant Coach at College of the Ozarks

Ryan Worley joins the Midwest Elite Basketball staff in 2010 as a highly decorated assistant coach in his 8th season at the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri. Worley has helped lead the Bobcats to a 153-76 record with last year's team making the National Championship game. The Bobcats have made the NAIA Div. II National Tournament in each of Worley's seven seasons on staff. Worley helped the Bobcats win a National Championship in 2006 and National Runner-up in 2009 as well as two Elite 8 finishes in the past seven seasons.

Worley specializes in perimeter and post player development and has had the privilege of coaching 6 NAIA All-Americans; he has aided in the development of three players who went on to play professionally overseas.


Eric Maassen

Assistant Coach at Dana College

Eric Maassen is in his first season as an Assistant Coach at Dana College in Blair, NE. His primary duties are scouting, recruiting, and post player development.

Prior to his current coaching position, Maassen played for the Dana basketball program. A three year starter, three year All-Conference performer, two year captain and two year NAIA Scholar Athlete, Maassen ended his career ranked in the top 10 in school history in Rebounding and Blocked Shots.

Maassen joins the MEB staff in 2010 and will serve as a Camp Instructor.


Bob Ludwig

Assistant Coach at Bellevue University

Bob Ludwig is in his second season as the top assistant coach at Bellevue University after spending one year on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Nebraska Wesleyan. Last season, Ludwig helped guide the Bruins to a 24-9 record and the Elite 8 of the NAIA DII National Tournament. During the 2007-08 season, Ludwig assisted Wesleyan to their first winning season since 2004.

Ludwig's camp background includes working camps at Creighton University, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Snow Valley Basketball school. He will serve as a camp instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball in 2010.

Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at the University of Sioux Falls

Jack Nelson is in his second season as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at the University of Sioux Falls. Last season he helped lead the Cougars to a GPAC Tournament Championship and a Sweet 16 appearance at the NAIA Division II National Tournament. Prior to coaching at USF, Nelson was an assistant at his alma mater, Saint Mary's University (MN).

Nelson's primary duties at USF include post and perimeter player development as well as recruiting. In 2010 he will be a camp instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball.


Ryan Montgomery

Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Bemidji State University

Ryan Montgomery is in his second season with Bemidji State University as a graduate assistant coach.

Montgomery played college hoops at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. During Montgomery's senior season he helped lead Hamline to its first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference post-season performance in 12 years and its first playoff win in 21 years. Montgomery spent the 2007 season as an assistant coach at Plainview-Elgin-Millville High School.

Montgomery graduated with an exercise sport science degree from Hamline University and is pursuing a graduate degree in sports studies. He will serve as a camp instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball in 2010.


Mark Svagera

Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Dickinson State University (Hastings College, Dana College)

Mark Svagera is entering his second year as an assistant coach at Dickinson State University (ND). This past season he assisted DSU to a second place finish in the Dakota Athletic Conference. Svagera's specializes in post player development and recruiting.

Prior to his position at DSU, Svagera was on the Hastings College (NE) Men's Basketball staff for two seasons. Svagera started his coaching career as an Assistant Women's Coach at his alma mater, Dana College (NE).

Svagera holds a M.S. in Physical Education and an M.A in Teaching. He will serve as a camp instructor for Midwest Elite Basketball in 2010.


Troy Ersland

Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Dakota State University (Luther College, Rose Hulman Tech, University of Wyoming)

Troy Ersland is entering his third season as the head assistant at DSU in 2010. He specializes in player development, recruiting, academic progress, and is heavily involved in all aspects of the Trojans program.

Ersland has nearly 15 years of coaching experience on all levels. He has been a fixture on the summer camp scene for many years working camps all over the country. He has worked camps at the University of Tennessee for Pat Summitt, Snow Valley Basketball School Iowa, South Dakota State University, Drake University, Northern State University, and the University of Wyoming, among many others.

He has a B.S. in Recreation and Sport Management and a M.S. in Coaching (Physical Education), both from Indiana State University. He will be serving as a camp instructor and director for Midwest Elite Basketball in 2010.
